Michael Sawicky Describes Inner Workings of District Court in Farmington Interview

In this episode of Seeing Clearly, I had the opportunity to sit down with Michael Sawicky, a candidate for the 47th District Court here in Farmington and Farmington Hills. The goal was simple. Create space for a clear, straightforward conversation so the community can better understand the role of a local judge.

One area that often goes unnoticed is court administration. Many people assume that court simply runs on its own. The reality is far more complex.

As Sawicky explained, the district court is made up of dozens of moving parts, from clerks and court officers to administrators and probation staff.

“You’ve got at least two to three dozen employees day to day,” he said, each playing a role in keeping the system functioning.

The responsibility does not stop with hearings and decisions. It extends into operations, staffing, budgeting, and coordination with multiple law enforcement agencies across Farmington, Farmington Hills, and beyond. Cases can involve local police, the Oakland County Sheriff, and even federal agencies depending on the situation.

There is also a significant responsibility when it comes to privacy and security. Courts handle sensitive information every day, and access must be carefully controlled. It is a reminder that what happens behind the courtroom doors is just as important as what happens inside them.

What stood out most in this conversation was how Sawicky framed the role of the court itself.

“The court is sort of like the conscience of the community,” he said.

It is where disputes are resolved, accountability is enforced, and in many cases, where individuals are given a path forward.

That perspective carries weight. Local courts are often the first point of contact people have with the justice system. The decisions made there are immediate and personal, affecting lives, families, and the broader community.

This conversation offers a closer look at the realities of the 47th District Court and the responsibilities that come with serving on the bench. For those looking to learn more or verify information, reviewing official campaign materials is always an important step:

Understanding how the system works is part of understanding how it serves the community.
